Our website is intended to be an online museum dedicated to one influential family that has lived in Oklahoma and Texas for multiple generations.

In memorializing this family and their work in commerce and in their communities, this online museum is also illustrating a family that is representative of the early days of the oil and gas industry and it demonstrates in microcosm the overall impact of the oil boom upon the states of Oklahoma and Texas.

The story of how the Prichard family became entertwined with the burgeoning oil and gas industry began with Lev H. Prichard, Sr., who intuited the worth of the oil business opportunity that was soon to abruptly emerge in the early Twentieth Century, and he set upon a course to invest in it.

Lev H. Prichard, Sr. partnered with J. Steve Anderson in 1919 and together they founded the Anderson-Prichard Oil Corporation in Oklahoma. The company grew for a number of years along with the broader oil industry itself, and in 1946, Prichard bought Anderson out of his shares, and then took the company public. The company evolved, and in 1960, its assets were sold to outside investors, and the new company was incorporated into APCO Oil Corporation.

The Prichard family retained some various smaller company assets and mineral rights, and the profits from the sale of the Anderson-Prichard Oil company formed a basis for other business and property development projects undertaken by them and their descendents, as well as as their contributions to many Christian charitable projects, educational institutions, and community development interests.

Articles in this blog will not only document some of the details of the Prichard family members’ lives, but will also illustrate various aspects of oil industry’s history, Oklahoma history, and popular culture — all tied-in to the history of the Prichard family in some way.
