Lev H. Prichard, Sr.

Lev H. Prichard, Sr. was born in 1883 to a devout farm family in rural Mississippi. He grew up working in the fields, while attending a one-room schoolhouse four months out of the year.

Prichard earned a bachelor’s degree from Mississippi College in 1906 and a law degree from Millsaps the following year.

A country lawyer, Prichard relocated to Oklahoma City in 1909, where he developed a growing interest in the booming oil industry there. In 1919 he co-founded the Anderson-Prichard Oil Corporation, which soon had successful oil claims in Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma, along with a refinery in Cyril.

Prichard bought out his partner in 1945 for $7.75 million, then took the company public.

Lev H. Prichard, Sr. died from cancer in 1949.
